Minutes from Midcoast Chapter Sept meeting 2024

  Midcoast Meeting September, Belfast Free Library Eighteen members and friends in attendance, some new to the area Introduced ourselves and shared a bit about our art practices. Confirmed not having a summer meeting as people are too busy and there’s lots of art happenings going on  Agreed to keep to bi-monthly meetings alternating between Belfast Free Library and Camden Public Library, second Saturdays. There was strong interest in focusing on tech issues for the November meet-up, including features and demos of the new website if possible. Gather your questions! Bring your expertise! Shanna Compton updated us on the progress of the UMVA website upgrade, which promises exciting features such as member pages, blogs we could submit exhibition announcements to, resources, calls for art etc. ETA November (hopefully). Gail Wartell updated on how the Alternative Visions show went, and Arlene Leighton and Liv Kristen Robinson spoke a bit about the upcoming Dark Skies Exhibition wh

Maine’s Coastal Islands Engage Midcoast UMVA Artists

  The Union of Maine Visual Artists (UMVA) - Midcoast Chapter, in partnership with the Friends of the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge in Rockland, presents “REFUGE”, a dynamic exhibition of artwork inspired by the unique beauty found in and around Maine’s coastal islands .  The exhibit opens with an artists’ reception on September 27th from 5 to 7 pm at the gallery at the Visitor’s Center, 9 Water St., Rockland, ME.  The gallery is open during the Visitor Center’s open hours from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.  The exhibit continues to Dec 13, 2024.    "Pemiquid Parkbellhouse" by  Bernadette de Cesare   Contemporary realist painter Jane Dahmen juried this exhibit which features both representational and abstract works. Dahmen, whose landscapes explore the coastal regions of midcoast Maine, has shown in solo and group shows both within the U.S. and abroad. She is represented by The Portland Art Gallery.  Viewers can explore moments of quiet connec
