 Open Call for Art--May 2021

Rage/Love: Goddess -- A virtual exhibit

The curators have modified 2020’s Call for Art in acknowledgement of present-day circumstances.
We are expanding the call to invite reflection and response to how women’s lives have been affected during the pandemic. We are interested in your depiction of the Goddess in whatever form you perceive her.
Artists selected to participate are required to join the UMVA ($25-$50 sliding scale) if not already members. No fee if you are already a member. The curators do not guarantee that all your entries will be included in the show.
To submit: Please email up to three (3) 5”x7” JPG files at 72 dpi (dots per inch)
Filenames MUST be formatted: FirstNameLastName_Title_Dimensions_media_price.
Submissions due by March 26, 2021, to Christine Sullivan, xtinejulia@gmail.com
Artists will be notified of selection by April 1. The show opens May 7, 2021.

Maine’s Coastal Islands Engage Midcoast UMVA Artists

  The Union of Maine Visual Artists (UMVA) - Midcoast Chapter, in partnership with the Friends of the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge in Rockland, presents “REFUGE”, a dynamic exhibition of artwork inspired by the unique beauty found in and around Maine’s coastal islands .  The exhibit opens with an artists’ reception on September 27th from 5 to 7 pm at the gallery at the Visitor’s Center, 9 Water St., Rockland, ME.  The gallery is open during the Visitor Center’s open hours from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.  The exhibit continues to Dec 13, 2024.    "Pemiquid Parkbellhouse" by  Bernadette de Cesare   Contemporary realist painter Jane Dahmen juried this exhibit which features both representational and abstract works. Take a Closer Look at Mainely Gallery and UMVA Midcoast in August

Alternative Vision is the name of the exhibit featuring both artists from UMVA Midcoast as well as the regular artists who show at Mainely Gallery, 181 Searsport Ave., Belfast, beginning August 2nd and continuing through August 21st. An opening reception is planned for Friday, August 2 at 5:00 p.m. This marks the first time that the Midcoast chapter of the UMVA has collaborated with a commercial gallery. Gail Wartell Keeping Our Heads Above Water The exhibit features the work of local artists exploring the theme of alternative vision. This broad theme applies to a different way of looking at things and interpreting them, including different technology, or perspective of other creatures, including a dog and a fly.
